ZONE 2 INTER-DPS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
FOR BOYS (OPEN) 2016

DPS Dwarka hosted the Zone 2 Inter-DPS Basketball Tournament for Boys (Open) 2016 from 06-08 May 2016. 19 teams from various Delhi Public Schools participated in this tournament.

The Opening Ceremony was graced by Dr. D.R. Saini, Director DPS Society. The programme began with  a musical rendition, Vande Mataram by the school choir followed by a Kathak Dance performance. Dr. Saini declared the tournament open. The participating teams took an oath to participate in the tournament abiding by the rules and regulations in the true spirit of sportsmanship.

Dr. Saini emphasized that such tournaments provide a platform to the students from various schools to compete in a healthy spirit, exhibit their potential and build bonds of friendship. He highlighted that every player must abide by the Olympic motto – Citius, Altius, Fortius, which means Faster, Higher, Stronger.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka in her address, reiterated that the importance of sports in education can be gauged by the way it helps in inculcating values such as discipline, dedication and teamwork. She emphasized that we must always remember  every champion was once a contender who refused to give up.

The team from DPS R.K. Puram bagged the Overall Winners Trophy. DPS Mathura Road and DPS Faridabad were the First and Second Runners Up of the tournament.  Rohaan Khanduja  of DPS Dwarka was adjudged the Best Player of the Tournament. Apart from the three winning teams, DPS Dwarka and DPS Maruti Kunj qualified for National Finals to be held in November 2016.

 
 

“CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME ON SCHOLASTIC ASPECTS OF CCE”

On 22nd and 23rd April 2016, Delhi Public School, Dwarka hosted the CBSE “Capacity Building Programme on Scholastic Aspects of CCE”.  The Resource Persons were    Ms. Anita Makkar, Former Principal, HDFC Public School, Gurgaon and Ms. Rajni Ashat, Principal, RRJS DAV Public School, Gurgaon.  Twenty six participants from schools of Delhi NCR, along with twenty teachers from DPS Dwarka attended the workshop.

The workshop highlighted on the Scholastic aspects of CCE.

Day 1 saw discussions on the very positive impact of child-centric approach to education in contrast with the earlier prevalent education reforms. The objectives, features and significance of CCE were discussed.  Certain group activities on the essentials of CCE were also conducted.  Teachers were involved in role play and discussions. Assessment tools and techniques of CCE were also discussed.

Day 2 focussed on the tools of evaluation, co-scholastic areas and assessment.  Analysing the questions under different headings such as remembering, analysis, application, creative, evaluation, was discussed in detail.  Teachers analysed question papers based on their subjects with respect to Bloom’s Taxonomy. Value based questions and their importance in holistic development of the learner were brainstormed in detail.  Their importance in the education framework was highlighted.
The issues of gender disparity and bullying were also discussed.

Students profile and Report card making before and after the CCE programme was done as a study in contrast.
It was a very enriching experience for all the teachers.

 

NATIONAL INTER DPS
WESTERN VOCAL MUSIC FESTIVAL 2015

18 & 19 DECEMBER 2015

Delhi Public School, Dwarka organized National Inter DPS Western Vocal Music Festival 2015 on 18 & 19 December 2015 under the aegis of the DPS Society. Around 300 students from 37 Delhi Public Schools all over India participated in this music festival.

The event was graced by Mr. V. K. Shunglu, Chairman, DPS Society, Mrs. Madhu Shunglu, Rear Admiral M. M. Chopra, Vice Chairman, DPS Society, Prof. B. P. Khandelwal, Vice Chairman, DPS Dwarka, Ms. Renu Mital, Director, DPS Society, Dr. D. R. Saini, Principal, DPS R. K. Puram,  and Ms. Bindu Sehgal, Principal, DPS Vasant Kunj.

The two day festival witnessed gallant guitarists, dashing drummers, vivacious vocalists and swinging cadence.  The meteoric splendour and matchless charm of the moments was thoroughly enjoyed by one and all.  The eminent panel of judges comprised Mr. Gautam Ghosh, Mr. Prateek Sen, Mr. Indra Neel & Mr. Ritesh Khokhar.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka congratulated the participants for their stupendous performance and emphasized that this musical pilgrimage was a great learning experience.

The winners were felicitated by Mr. V.K. Shunglu, Chairman, DPS Society. The team from DPS Dimapur were adjudged the Overall Winners of the Group Song Competition and DPS Vasant Kunj was the winner of the Solo Song Competition.

 

BERYOZA 2015

Annual Inter School Russian Language Festival

DPS Dwarka organized Beryoza 2015 – Annual Inter School Russian Language Festival on Friday, 20 November 2015 under the aegis of DPS Society.

The valedictory function was graced by Mr. Sergei Karmalito, Senior Counsellor, Embassy of Russian Federation and Mr. B.K. Chaturvedi, Chairman DPS Dwarka.

Ms. Yulya Aryaeva, Second Secretary, Embassy  of Russian Federation, Ms. Tatyana Pirova, Head of the Russian Language Teachers Training Centre, RCSC and Mr. Yuri Mescheryakov, Principal, Russian Embassy School were the other distinguished guests.

Mr. Karmalito in his address expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts taken by DPS Society in promoting Russian language. He emphasized that such events will further strengthen the bond of friendship between the two nations. He presented a book on Russian Art and Culture to Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka.

Mr. Chaturvedi, Chairman, DPS Dwarka extended his gratitude towards the Russian Embassy for their continued support and congratulated the school for successfully organizing this festival for the fifth consecutive year.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal DPS Dwarka emphasized that such events provide the students a platform to exhibit their understanding of the rich culture and to appreciate the important role of Russia in the global economy.

The cultural programme put up by the students of DPS Dwarka enthralled the audience. The dance drama depicting a famous Russian fairy tale ‘Teremok’ was highly appreciated by the delegates from the Russian Embassy. The young students of Russian Embassy School also presented a splendid Russian dance and Russian Song.

The competitions organized during Beryoza 2015 included Russian Duet Song Competition, Russian Language Olympiad, Choral Poetry Recitation, Quiz on Russian Culture in English, Poster Making, Essay Writing and Master Class on Russian Dance.

The events were judged by eminent panelists from RCSC  - Ms. Tatyana Pirova, Ms. Tatyana Shipilova, Ms. Anju Mehta, Ms. Aigul Apieva, Ms. Olga Ilina & Ms. Yulya.

DPS Dwarka team was adjudged the Overall Winners of Beryoza 2015.

AXIOM 2015
INTER SCHOOL MATH FEST

AXIOM 2015, The Annual Inter School Math Fest, was organized by DPS Dwarka on Friday, 06 November 2015. 300 Math enthusiasts from 18 schools across Delhi & NCR collaboratively accomplished the daunting task of realigning themselves to their generic obsession for Math.

The Inaugural Ceremony was marked by a mellifluous performance by the School Orchestra and a  Powerpoint presentation highlighting amazing mathematical facts. Bhuvesh Mehendiratta, President AXIOM, declared the event open and urged all the participants to exhibit their mathematical skills. Various events like Senior Quiz, Algorithmic, Symposium, Math-o-Art, Mind Bender, Logic Analyze etc., were  organized. The idea behind organizing Math Fest is to push all math smart people into immense cerebral activity.

The event culminated with the Prize Distribution Ceremony. Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka, felicitated the proud winners. DPS R.K. Puram bagged the Winners Trophy and DPS Vasant Kunj was the Runners up of AXIOM 2015.

 

CORE8 & ROBODEX

03 & 04 November 2015

DPS Dwarka organized Inter School Computer and Robotics Symposia on 03 & 04 November 2015. The mega event saw participation of more than 600 students from 30 schools across Delhi & NCR.

The inaugural ceremony was marked with the lighting of the lamp followed by an orphic performance by the school band. The highlight of the ceremony was the ‘Humanoid-A Dancing Robot’ designed by Rishi Singh Jarral of class VIII. He will be participating in the International Robotics Fest to be held at Washington Stadium, San Francisco. This was followed by a video presentation highlighting the achievements of CORE & ROBODEX.

Bhuvesh Mehendiratta, President, CORE and Anubhav Sharma, President, ROBODEX declared the event open and delineated the efforts of their teams to conceptualize and execute the event to precision. To put to test the scientific and analytical skills of the students, 23 brainstorming events were organized during the two days. The competitions included programming, designing, gaming, animation group discussion, Robowars, Quiz to name a few.

The event culminated with the felicitation ceremony. Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka, felicitated the proud winners and congratulated the participants for their zealous endeavours. DPS R.K. Puram was adjudged Overall Winners of the event followed by DPS Vasant Kunj as the Runners up.

 

STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME  WITH GERMANY

DPS Dwarka hosted a delegation of 11 students and 2 teachers from Johannes Kepler Gymnasium, Leonberg Germany from 31st October 2015 to 14th November 2015. By participating in the student exchange the delegation got an opportunity to immerse themselves in a new environment, experience a new culture, compare educational systems, to network, travel, make new friends and get a ‘second family’.

On their arrival they were accorded a traditional welcome in the school and a special assembly was held in their honour. The highlight of the assembly was a multimedia presentation and a traditional Bhangra and Garba dance performance by the students of DPS Dwarka. The German students also put up 2 group songs. Certificates were given to the students of the exchange programme by our honourable Principal, Mrs. Sunita Tanwar.

During the time the participants spent in the school they attended classes of the subjects of their choice and learnt yoga, art and dance. They also attended a pottery class and enjoyed making figurines of Ganesh Lakshmi using  a mould.

A visit to Agra and Jaipur was also organized by the school. Travelling to these heritage cities was about soaking the rich history and culture, visiting forts and monuments that have stood the test of wars and time, experiencing the different flavours of the cities and also seeing the modern side. Especially memorable was visiting the Taj Mahal in Agra and Amber fort, Hawa Mahal and the local market in Jaipur. The trip to Jaipur also included a visit to a blue pottery factory and block printing factory in Sanganer. The children also tried their hands at block printing and painting tiles. The colourful costumes of the locals and the journey through the Aravali Hills left everyone mesmerized.

The delegation also got the opportunity to celebrate the festival of lights – Diwali with the host families. Visits were organized to Akshardham, National Museum, Lotus Temple, India Gate, Qutab Minar, the local markets and the emporiums by the host families.

Overall it was an enriching experience for the visitors as they took back happy memories of the warm hospitality of the Indians and promised to return again.

 

ZONE 2 INTER-DPS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
FOR BOYS (OPEN) 2015

DPS Dwarka hosted the Zonal Inter-DPS Football Tournament for Boys (Open) 2015 from 16-18 October 2015. A total of 19 teams from various Delhi Public Schools participated in this tournament.

The Opening Ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Mr. B.K. Chaturvedi, Chairman, DPS Dwarka & Member, DPS Society. Mr. Menvin D’souza,
Ex-FIFA Referee & Mr. Ramesh Jaglan, Chief Coach of Indian Cycling Team
also graced the occasion. The programme began with  march past by the participating teams which was led by the Army band from Rajputana Rifles. A spectacular cultural programme comprising Ribbon Drill, Fan Drill and Pom Pom Dance was put up by the students of classes III & IV. Mr. Chaturvedi declared the tournament open by releasing the balloons and reading out the pledge.

Mr. Chaturvedi, Chairman, DPS Dwarka emphasized that such tournaments provide the students a platform to interact and compete in a healthy spirit. He also highlighted that football is now occupying a rightful place in our country.

The team from DPS Gurgaon bagged the Overall Winners Trophy and DPS Panipat City, DPS R.K. Puram and DPS Dwarka were the First , Second and Third Runners Up respectively.  Sanandan Jalali of DPS Dwarka and Gurmeet Singh of DPS Panipat City were adjudged the Best Players of the Tournament.

In order to provide a forum for developing Public Speaking and Debating Skills amongst students, an Inter House Debate Competition was organized for students of classes VI – VIII (Level – I) and classes IX-XII (Level – II). Teams debated on a wide range of topics such as:

  3. Is flattery the key to success?
  4. Should electronic devices be allowed in school?

INVESTITURE CEREMONY

Tuesday, 04 August 2015

DPS Dwarka organized the Investiture Ceremony for the session 2015-16 on Tuesday, 04 August 2015. A total of 89 young leaders were invested with various responsibilities. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. B.K.Chaturvedi, Chairman, DPS Dwarka . The cultural programme comprised a Talk Show ‘Rectitude… A way of Life’ and a melodious rendition ‘Vande Mataram’. It was followed by a spectacular Bharatnatyam dance performance.

The School Principal, Ms. Sunita Tanwar, in her welcome address congratulated all the school appointees and stated that as leaders of tomorrow, they must take a pledge to look beyond individual ambitions and work towards the greater goal. Giving examples of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, she said that ‘Great Leaders’ leave behind footprints for others to emulate.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Chaturvedi , in his address mentioned that Investiture Ceremony is a recognition of leadership qualities of our young appointees. Highlighting the role of leaders in all walks of life, he said that inculcating values and virtues in the present day youth is very essential.

The Head Boy, Rohan Kumar and the Head Girl, Jigeesha Ghosh, on behalf of the entire Student Council, emphasized that  the onus of leadership bestowed upon them is immense and they hope to not only emulate the bar set by their predecessors but to raise it up a notch. They assured to uphold the great legacy of the school and pledged to keep the DPS banner aloft.

The ceremony was witnessed by the proud parents of the young office bearers.

 

LUMINARIUM – INTER SCHOOL ENGLISH LITERATURE FESTIVAL

DPS Dwarka organized Luminarium – The Third Inter School English Literature Festival on 15 & 16 July 2015.

The  event  saw  an  overwhelming  participation  of around 1200 students from 26  schools  of   Delhi  &  NCR.  The   Inaugural   Ceremony   was graced  by  Mr. B.K. Chaturvedi, Chairman, DPS Dwarka. He  appreciated  the  efforts  of the school in promoting English literature. In his address he emphasized that hard work, self belief and values of honesty and integrity are the mantra to success.   Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka, in her address said that great literature is language charged with meaning to the utmost possible degree. She emphasized the importance of exposing children to good literary works and inculcating in them the habit of reading.

Luminarium-2015 was a compendium of innovative and creative events like Shakespeare’s Majestic Maidens, Choral Story Telling, Topsy Turvy, A Simile for Thee, Poetic Recital and Lyrical Ballads to name a few. The events were judged by eminent panel of judges comprising Professors, Lecturers and ELT Consultants from NCERT, SCERT, OUP, Scholastic India etc.

DPS Dwarka team was adjudged as the overall winners. However, being the host school, the Rolling Trophy was passed on to the First Runners Up - DPS R.K. Puram.
This literary pilgrimage was a great learning experience for all the participants.

 

SPORTS CARNIVAL 2014

DPS Dwarka celebrated the Sports Carnival - ‘I CAN… Sprint Soar Succeed!’ on Saturday, 13 December 2014. Rear Admiral M.M. Chopra, Vice Chairman, DPS Society graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The highlights of the day were the epochal strides by the students in the March Past followed by a majestic band display by the Rajputana Rifles. Admiral Chopra declared the event open by kindling the torch and releasing the balloons. The mascot of the carnival was the ‘Girl Child’ as DPS Dwarka aims to sensitize the people and foster in them the need to create gender equality. 

2000 students from classes Preschool to X participated in this sports carnival with the true spirit of sportsmanship exhibiting zeal and enthusiasm. The vivacious cultural presentation by the students of classes I to V saw mass participation in the form of Bhangra Aerobics, Zumba Dance, Prop Dance and the Theme Drill. Students of classes VI to VIII exhibited their Tae-won-do skills which left the audience spell bound. Winners of various track events were felicitated with medals and certificates by the Hon’ble Chief Guest.

Admiral Chopra, lauded the school for its commendable contribution in the field of education and holistic development of students. He stressed on the fact that sports infuse in us the spirit of competition and help us overcome vices like ferocity and over ambition.

Mrs. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka in her welcome address, emphasized the importance of sports in education as it helps in inculcating values such as dedication, discipline, responsibility and team work in children.

The School Sports Captains proposed the vote of thanks expressing their gratitude to the school, staff and all proud parents for their support and encouragement in making this event a vibrant extravaganza.

 

SCHOLAR BADGE CEREMONY

DPS Dwarka felicitated the young scholars of classes IX– XII on the occasion of the Scholar Badge ceremony held on Friday, 28 November 2014. Dr. Sanjeev Sahni, Principal Director, Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences O.P. Jindal Global University, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Dr. Sahni emphasized that parents should not thrust their decisions upon their children. We should have faith in our children and should give them adequate freedom to take their own decisions. This would help them grow into independent and responsible citizens. He congratulated the Principal, Ms. Sunita Tanwar for the outstanding performance of the students in academic and co-curricular activities.

Dr. Sahni awarded the students with gold medals, blazers, ties and badges for their outstanding academic performance during the session 2013-2014.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka, in her address, congratulated the proud scholars and said that excellence is not a matter of luck, it is the result of a lot of hard work and practice. The harder a person works, the better he feels and the better he feels, the harder he works.

The cultural programme comprised a Talk Show ‘Sky is not the limit’ and a melodious rendition ‘Vande Mataram’. A dance drama ‘I AM’ highlighting the plight of the girls across the world was highly appreciated by one and all.

 

SCHOLAR BADGE CEREMONY

DPS Dwarka felicitated the scholars of classes VI - VIII for their outstanding academic performance during the session 2013-2014 on the occasion of the Scholar Badge ceremony held on Thursday, 27 November 2014. Ms. Anita Satia, Director, SCERT graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
  
The cultural programme included a melodious rendition ‘Vande Mataram’ by the school choir and a Talk show ‘Hard Work – The Success Mantra’. The highlight of the day was a dance drama ‘I AM’ depicting the plight of girls around the world and the need to empower them.

Ms. Satia, in her address, congratulated DPS Dwarka for excelling in academic and co-curricular activities. She emphasized that under the astute leadership of dynamic and hardworking Principal, Ms. Sunita Tanwar the school has scaled greater heights within a short span of time.

In her address, Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka, congratulated the proud scholars and said that self discipline is the key to success. Students who learn the lesson of discipline early in life, do much better as they grow up because they have already learnt to define their goals and are committed to attain those goals.

DPS Dwarka under the aegis of DPS Society organized Beryoza 2014 – Annual Inter School Russian Language Festival on Wednesday, 19 November 2014.

The valedictory function was graced by Mr. Sergei Karmalito, Senior Counsellor, Embassy of Russian Federation as the distinguished chief guest. Mr. Fyodor Rozovski, Director, RCSC was the guest of honour and Mr. V.K. Shunglu, Chairman, DPS Dwarka and DPS Society presided over the function.

Ms. Nana Mgeládze, Counsellor and Ms. Yulya Aryaeva, Second Secretary, from Embassy  of Russian Federation, Ms. Tatyana Pirova, Head of the Russian Language Teachers Training Centre, RCSC and Mr. Yuri Mescheryakov, Principal, Russian Embassy School, were the other distinguished guests.

Mr. Karmalito in his address expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts taken by DPS Society in promoting Russian language. He emphasized that learning of Russian language will create cultural awareness and bring children closer to the globalized world.

Mr. Fyodor emphasized that such events bring the people of both the countries together acquiring more knowledge about each other's history and culture. On behalf of RCSC he presented books on Russian Art and Culture to Mr. Shunglu, Chairman DPS Society and Ms. Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal DPS Dwarka emphasized that India and Russia enjoy long, largely stable and mutually beneficial relations. The exchange of delegations, holding of festivals and mutual visits by leaders have given a new momentum to our bilateral relations.

The competitions organized during Beryoza 2014 included Russian Poetry Recitation, Perevod-Translation, Painting, Russian Dance and Russian Group Song, Russian Language Games and Master Class on Khokhloma.

CORE AND ROBODEX

17 & 18 October 2014

DPS Dwarka organized Inter School Computers and Robotics Symposia on 17 & 18 October 2014. The mega event saw participation of more than 600 students from 30 schools across Delhi & NCR.

The inaugural ceremony was marked with the lighting of the lamp followed by an orphic performance by the school band. The highlight of the ceremony was the video presentation showcasing the activities and achievements of the Computers and Robotics Clubs.

Arul Ajmani, President, CORE and Hardit Singh, President, ROBODEX declared the event open and delineated the efforts of their teams to conceptualize and execute the event to precision. To put to test the scientific and analytical skills of the students, 21 brainstorming events were organized during the two days. The competitions included programming, designing, gaming, animation group discussion, Robowars, Quiz to name a few.

The event culminated with the felicitation ceremony. Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka, felicitated the proud winners and congratulated the participants for their zealous endeavours. DPS R.K. Puram was adjudged Overall Winners of the event.

Inter School Math Fest
Thursday, 16 October 2014

AXIOM 2014, The Annual Inter School Math Fest, was organized by DPS Dwarka on Thursday, 16 October 2014. 300 Math enthusiasts from 16 schools across Delhi & NCR collaboratively accomplished the daunting task of realigning themselves to their generic obsession for Math.

The Inaugural Ceremony was marked by an entrancing performance by the School Band. Satwik Jain, President AXIOM, declared the event open and urged all the participants to exhibit their mathematical skills. Various events like Senior Quiz, Algorithmic, Symposium, Surprise Event, Problem Solving were organized. The idea behind organizing Math Fest is to push all math smart people into immense cerebral activity and edge-of-the-seat kind of excitement.

The event culminated with the Prize Distribution Ceremony. Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka, felicitated the proud winners. The overall Trophy was bagged by DPS R.K. Puram.

VANIJYA 2014

Annual Inter DPS Commerce Festival

DPS Dwarka organized Vanijya 2014 – Annual Inter DPS Commerce Festival on 15 October 2014. The event saw participation from more than 53 Delhi Public Schools from all over India for offline and online competitions.

The Valedictory Function was graced by Mr. Pramod Grover, Honorary Treasurer, DPS Society. In his address he congratulated the Principal for organizing such mega events. He applauded the efforts put in by the Commerce Department for creating general awareness about various aspects of the world of business in an interesting and enjoyable manner.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka in her address reiterated that the aim of organising such events is to keep the students abreast with the corporate culture & to prepare them for their professional life.

Vanijya 2014 was a Commerce Festival with a difference, a platform with multitude of events like Spectrum: e-newspaper designing, TAGLOG: Logo Designing Competition, V@entertainment.animated videos, Cross de Road, Quality Circle - The Commerce Quiz, Cinevista – The Movie Magic, Get Inspired – T-Shirt Designing etc.

The Overall Trophy was bagged by DPS Dwarka.

 

DPS Dwarka launches ‘I AM’

On the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child, Delhi Public School Dwarka launched ‘I Am – a social awareness programme for the girl child on Friday, 10 October 2014.

Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, Hon’ble Minister of HRD complimented the school and wished them good luck for taking up this social awareness programme to empower the girl child. She said that in our country where we idolize Shakti, we have many girls who are still struggling to have two square meals a day, to have basic education, to have basic rights as human beings and as citizens. She emphasized that together we can ensure gender equality and sensitize the people.

Mr. V. K. Shunglu, Chairman, DPS Society said that school is the place best suited to raise gender awareness and address the problems of gender inequality. He further added that there should be no gender segregation at the school level, that is why all Delhi Public Schools are co-educational.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka emphasized that as responsible citizens, the greatest challenge before is to emancipate, enrich and empower the girl child and to accelerate education for girls.

A thought provoking documentary highlighting the problems faced by the girl child globally was screened. The students presented a choral recitation based on the poem penned by the Principal,  Ms. Tanwar. A dance showcasing the plight of the girls across the world was also presented.

The young crusaders of DPS Dwarka are all set to champion this cause.

 

LUMINARIUM – INTER SCHOOL ENGLISH LITERATURE FESTIVAL

06 - 08 AUGUST 2014

DPS Dwarka organized Luminarium - Inter School English Literature Festival from 06 to 08 August 2014 under the aegis of the DPS Society.

The  event  saw  an  overwhelming  participation  of around 1100 students from 29  schools  of   Delhi  &  NCR.  The   Inaugural   Ceremony   was graced  by  Mr. V.K. Shunglu, Chairman, DPS Dwarka and DPS Society. He  appreciated  the  efforts  of the school in promoting English literature. Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka, in her address said that reading opens the doors of imagination and understanding. She emphasized the importance of exposing children to good literary works and inculcating in them the habit of reading.

Luminarium-2014 was a compendium of innovative and creative events like Shakespearean Soliloquy, Choral Recitation, Twin Thrills, Comically Yours and Manouevering Malgudi, to name a few.

A special award titled Luminarium Laureate, instituted to honour the Great Literary Genius, William Shakespeare was bagged by Rohan Kumar of  DPS Dwarka for his exemplary dramatic performance. DPS Dwarka team was also the proud winners of the Rolling Trophy.

This literary pilgrimage was a great learning experience for all the participants.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY

FRIDAY, 25 JULY 2014

DPS Dwarka organized the Investiture Ceremony for the session 2013-14 on Friday, 25 July 2015. A total of 66 young leaders were invested with various responsibilities. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. A. K. Hazarika, Member, Managing Committee, DPS Dwarka. The cultural programme included a reverie of music and celestial beats by the school orchestra and school choir, a thoughtful talk show on Journey of Life and an exuberating Scottish dance.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka, congratulated all the school appointees and stated that we should never doubt that a small group of thoughtful concerned citizens can change the world; indeed it is the only thing that ever has. If children are committed they can surely be the change makers.

Mr. Hazarika, in his address mentioned that the Investiture Ceremony is recognition of the leadership qualities of our young appointees. He administered the oath and encouraged them to deliver their duties with utmost dedication and sincerity. 

The Head Boy Sahil Chadha and Head Girl Jayanti Tiwari, on behalf of the Student Council, pledged to uphold the DPS culture to ensure that the DPS banner is held aloft.

The ceremony was witnessed by the proud parents of the young office bearers.
 

INDO FRENCH STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

 

As a part of the Indo French Student Exchange Programme, a delegation of 21 students and 5 teachers from Collège Jean Jaurès, St. Vit, France visited DPS Dwarka from 06-19 April 2014.

A Special Assembly was organized in the school auditorium on 07 April 2014 to welcome the French delegates. Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka formally welcomed all the delegates. Mr. Jean Luc Estavoyer, Principal, College Jean Jaurès, St. Vit, France expressed his views on the importance of India’s culture and economy in the global setup and the need for such exchange programmes. A colourful Cultural Programme was put up by the host school to showcase the vibrant Indian Culture.

During their stay, DPS Dwarka organized visits for the delegates to the Kingdom of Dreams, Dilli Haat, the Iconic Taj Mahal & Agra Fort. Also an overnight trip to Jaipur enabled them to visit the City Palace, Observatory, Hawa Mahal and Amer Fort. Local shopping and sightseeing of the Pink City were also facilitated. In addition to this special visits to Akshardham Temple, Lotus Temple, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Qutab Minar, India Gate, Rajpath, Cottage Emporium, Janpath, National Museum were also organized.

The Valedictory Ceremony held on 18 April 2014 was graced by Ms. Caroline Schmitt, Attachée for Education and Linguistics, Embassy of France. In her speech she thanked the schools for this great initiative and expressed her desire for continuation of such programmes between two countries.

Through the Bhangra dance performance in colourful costumes, Shloka recital and video presentation, our French friends exhibited Indian art and culture which they had learnt and imbibed during their stay. The French song, sung by the Indo French delegates truly showcased the confluence of Indo French culture.

 
 

NATIONAL INTER-DPS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
FOR BOYS (OPEN) 2013

20-22 DECEMBER 2013

DPS Dwarka hosted the National Inter-DPS Basketball Tournament for Boys (Open) 2013 from 20-22 December 2013. After winning the zonal matches 14 best teams from Delhi Public Schools all over India competed in the National Finals to win the coveted trophy.

The Opening Ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society and two renowned International Basketball Players, Ms. Pratima Singh and Ms. Akanksha Singh. The programme began with  a march past by the participating teams which was led by the Army band from Rajputana Rifles. A spectacular cultural programme comprising Aerobics, Ribbon Drill, Lyrical Jazz and Pom Pom Dance was put up by the students of classes I, II & III. Mr. Chandra declared the tournament open by releasing the balloons and reading out the pledge.

Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society emphasized that such tournaments provide a platform to the students from various schools to interact and compete in a healthy spirit and exhibit their potential and build bonds of friendship.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka in her address reiterated that the importance of sports in education can be gauged by the way it helps in inculcating values such as dedication, discipline, responsibility and teamwork in children at the same time teaching them many relevant lessons in life.

The team from DPS Mathura Road bagged the Overall Winners Trophy and DPS Maruti Kunj and DPS Jalandhar were the First and Second Runners Up of the tournament.  Shaksham Maan of DPS Dwarka was adjudged as the Best Player of the Tournament.

 
 

ANNUAL PRODUCTION - CHANDRAGUPTA MAURYA

SATURDAY, 23 NOVEMBER 2013

DPS Dwarka staged its Annual Production – Chandragupta Maurya on Saturday, 23 November 2013. The occasion was graced by Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Dwarka and DPS Society as the Chief Guest. The play highlighted the life and grandeur of the legendary Mauryan Ruler, Chandragupta Maurya, whose regime is famous for great social and religious reforms. The endeavour was to capture the glory of Chandragupta’s rule by showcasing the policies, art and culture of his reign.

The play reflected the important role played by the Chanakya, the guru and chief advisor of Chandragupta and gave glimpse of Alexander’s role during the Mauryan period. The enactment included an amalgamation of different dance forms reflecting Greek and Indian warfare.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal DPS Dwarka welcomed the Chief Guest Mr. Ashok Chandra, and other distinguished guests. In her address she enunciated the importance of holistic development of the students. She emphasized that the disciplines of music, art, dance and theatre should be an integral part of the school curriculum.

Mr. Ashok Chandra, complimented the Principal, staff and students for their magnum effort in making the play a complete package of history, art, culture and entertainment.  He congratulated the entire DPS Dwarka team for their accomplishments in all spheres and wished them good luck for their future endeavours.

The Annual Production was an entertaining and educational experience, bringing the students closer to our ancient history.

NIHON NO KAORI-2013

Annual Inter School Japanese Language Festival 

Wednesday, 23 October 2013

DPS Dwarka under the aegis of DPS Society organized Nihon No Kaori 2013 – Annual Inter School Japanese Language Festival on Wednesday, 23 October 2013. Twenty five renowned schools participated in this mega event.

The valedictory function was graced by Ms. Mayu Hagiwara, Director, Japan Information Centre, Embassy of Japan as the distinguished chief guest. Mr. Katsuma Doi, Director  General, Japan  Foundation  and Mr. Taisuke Watanabe, Senior Representative, JICA were the guests of honour and Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society presided over the function.

Ms. Mayu Hagiwara expressed her deep appreciation for DPS Society in promoting Japanese language. She assured the students that there are excellent opportunities for higher studies in Japan.

Mr. Katsuma Doi in his address highlighted that according to a survey conducted by Japan Foundation, there is a considerable increase in the number of Japanese language learners in India, majorly at the primary and secondary level. Mr. Watanabe on behalf of JICA congratulated DPS Society for being the first institute to promote Japanese Language in India.

Mr. Chandra congratulated the participants and applauded the efforts of the DPS Dwarka team for organizing such a mega event. He emphasized that the aim of organizing such festivals is to bring the two countries together and further strengthen the bond of friendship.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal DPS Dwarka emphasized that studying Japanese can be an asset to the students in the job market, a spur to personal and intellectual growth, a source of increased self-esteem and above all an enjoyable experience.

A spectacular cultural programme put up by the students of DPS Dwarka enthralled the audience. The delegates from the Japan Embassy highly appreciated the Japanese Dance and the presentation by the School Orchestra.

The festival provided the students a platform to exhibit their inherent talent and understanding of the Japanese Language. Various competitions like Group Song, Painting, Origami, Tongue Twister were organized to test the language skills of the students. A highly informative workshop on ‘How to wear Yukata’, was conducted by Ms. Yoshiko Ito and Ms. Kaeko, teachers from Hagoromo. Mr. Satoshi Hata, Representative, Ritsuemikan India University conducted a session on Japanese Dance ‘Bon-o-dori’.

Annual Inter School Russian Language Festival

DPS Dwarka under the aegis of DPS Society organized Beryoza 2013 – Annual Inter School Russian Language Festival on Thursday, 03 October 2013.
The valedictory function was graced by Mr. Sergei Karmalito, Senior Counsellor, Embassy of Russian Federation as the distinguished chief guest. Mr. Fedor Rozovskiy, Director, RCSC was the guest of honour and Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Dwarka and DPS Society presided over the function.

Ms. Yulya Aryaeva, Third  Secretary, Embassy  of Russian Federation, Ms. Anastasiya Khokhlova, Deputy Director, RCSC, Ms. Tatyana Pirova, Russian Language Advisor, RCSC, Mr. Yuri Papov, Head Teacher, Russian Embassy School, Prof. Nasar Shakeel Rommi, HOD, Dept. of Russian Language, JNU were the other distinguished guests.

Mr. Karmalito in his address expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts taken by DPS Society in promoting Russian language. He emphasized that such events would further strengthen the goodwill between the two countries.

Mr. Fedor emphasized that such events would bring the people of both the countries closer acquiring more knowledge about each other's history and culture. On behalf of RCSC he presented the famous Russian Painting ‘Gzhel’ to Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman DPS Society and Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka.

Mr. Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society expressed his heartfelt gratitude  to  the  Russian  Embassy  for  their  invaluable  support   and  co-operation. He appreciated the efforts of the Principal and the staff for organizing a spectacular event.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal DPS Dwarka emphasized that India and Russia enjoy long, largely stable and mutually beneficial relations. The exchange of delegations, holding of festivals and mutual visits by leaders have given a new momentum to our bilateral relations.
The cultural programme put up by the students of DPS Dwarka enthralled the audience. The Russian Dance and the Russian Welcome Song were highly appreciated by the delegates from the Russian Embassy. The young students of Russian Embassy School presented a mesmerizing song and a splendid Russian ballet.

The festival provided the students a platform to exhibit their understanding of the rich Russian culture and to appreciate the important role of Russia in global economy and politics. The competitions organized during Beryoza 2013 included Master class on Gzhel and Russian Folk Dance, Russian Poetry Recitation, Perevod-Translation, Painting, Russian Dance and Russian Group Song.

DPS Dwarka organized the Investiture Ceremony for the session 2013-14 on Thursday, 25 July 2013. A total of 62 young leaders were invested with various responsibilities. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Dwarka and DPS Society. The cultural programme included a reverie of music and celestial beats by the school orchestra and school choir, a thoughtful recital on ‘To be Successful’ and an exuberating dance performance.

The School Principal, Ms. Sunita Tanwar, in her welcome address congratulated all the school appointees and stated that as leaders of tomorrow, they must take a pledge to look beyond individual ambitions and work towards the greater goal. Giving examples of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, she said that ‘Great Leaders’ leave behind footprints for others to emulate.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Ashok Chandra, in his address mentioned that the Investiture Ceremony is recognition of the leadership qualities of our young appointees. Highlighting the role of leaders in all walks of life, Mr. Chandra said that the important leadership qualities are – Focus on excellence, the determination to keep striving, the virtue of caring and sharing and a strong base in values. He concluded saying that it is an opportunity for the appointees to polish and groom these qualities.

The ceremony was witnessed by the proud parents of the young office bearers.

 
 

INDO-FRENCH STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

A delegation of 21 students of classes IX and X, along with 2 teachers of DPS Dwarka went to France for the Indo-French Student Exchange Programme from 29 April to 11May 2013.


Mr. Jean Luc Estavoyer, the Principal, teachers, parents and student partners of Collège Jean Jaurès, St. Vit. received them with a lot of warmth and felicitated them. Mr. Eric Martin, Mayor, Mr. Routhier, Rector and Ms. Marie Noelle Schoeller, Vice Mayor of St. Vit. They addressed the delegation and gave a warm welcome to the Indian delegation on different occasions. The teachers of DPS Dwarka also addressed the gathering. Our students received souvenirs from all of them.


During their stay in France, our students attended classes and participated in class discussions. They visited various Activity Rooms, School Labs and the School Canteen and made their observations regarding the functioning of the school. They visited many places of historical importance. A guided tour of Citadel of Besançon, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was organised to give them an insight into the fortification of the old French cities by the famous French architect Vauban.They were also taken to Dijon for a guided tour of the city which exhibits typical French Architecture. There they saw the Old City Gate, the Palace of the Duke of Burgundy, Notre Dame Cathedral and Museum of Fine Arts where they learnt about the paintings and sculptures influenced by the great Renaissance Artists. In Paris, they visited the famous Champs Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Garden of Tuilleries, Notre Dame Cathedral and Louvre Museum.


Our students also went to The Museum of the Houses of Franche Comté Region where they gained knowledge about the different kinds of houses that were built with special features for survival in France during 17th-19th Century. The delegates also learnt how the French people made ‘Torchies’ i.e. the walls of their houses by using clay, quicklime and straw. They also experienced the art of baking bread in the oven during a workshop organised by the museum.


A visit to the Chocolate Factory explained to them about the cultivation of Cocoa and the process of making chocolates. During a workshop at the Centre for Applied Linguistics (CLA), Mr.Jean Pierre Besach, Professor CLA, spoke about FLE ( French as a Foreign Language) and about the City of Besançon. Mr.John N Burnap who is assocated with LFDC, an NGO for needy children in South India, conducted a workshop for Indian and French students on Socio-Cultural Differences in the two countries.


Besides the visits organised by the school, the host families made special efforts to arrange outings and activities for our students. Some students visited places like Switzerland, Nancy, City Centres and various Shopping Arcades. They were taken to Amusement Parks, Riverside and Neighbouring parks and Fetes where they enjoyed activities like cycling, boating, kayaking and cruising. Birthday parties were organised for two of our students who had their birthday during this period.


The Indian delegates put up a Cultural Programme before Mr. Eric Martin, Mayor St. Vit, the School Officials and the Parents of the French Partners which received newspaper coverage as it was applauded by one and all. The show was also presented in the school for all the teachers and the students on the last day of their stay in France.


The dignitaries who met this delegation praised the efforts made by Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman DPS Dwarka and DPS Society, Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal DPS Dwarka and Mr. Jean Luc Estavoyer, Principal, Collège Jean Jaurès, for the success of this Student Exchange Programme. They said that the first Student Exchange Programme between India and France is a very special one and must continue for years to come.


The students of Collège Jean Jaurès and the host families bade a warm adieu to the Indian delegates.The Indian delegation was deeply touched by the hospitality extended by the French partners which made their stay a memorable one. A deep bond of friendship has been cemented by this unique Educational Exchange Programme.The French delegates will visit India in the month of November this year for a reciprocal visit.

 
 

GLOBAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME

KING’S COLLEGE LONDON

Delhi Public School ,Dwarka in association with King’s College, London organized a Pre-University Programme on Global Leadership for the students of classes X to XII from 13 to 17 May 2013 Mr. Michael Bedward, the resource person for this programme is a highly experienced Business Advisor, Business Support Manager and Business Creation Facilitator with over 10 years of working experience with entrepreneurs in UK and abroad. He teaches enterprise and innovation management at the University of Arts, London and Central St. Martin’s and is a regular tutor on King’s Summer programmes in London and internationally

This 05 day Pre-University Programme aimed to provide the participants an opportunity to study and gain insight into International University Education. Under the tutelage of Mr. Bedward the participants learnt the art of being a good leader. They learnt that a true leader works at creating more leaders not followers. Leadership is leaving a legacy, it is the ability to be a catalyst for change, to inspire and persuade people to follow the righteous path.

The Valedictory function was graced by Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman,DPS Society and Mr. Tayyeb Shah, Director of International Strategy at King’s College London.

Mr. Chandra in his address congratulated DPS Dwarka for initiating this pilot project which will prove to be highly beneficial for the high school students as they are the future leaders of our nation.

Mr. Tayeb Shah expressed his pleasure to be associated with DPS Dwarka. He said that King’s College is proud to have alumni like Sarojini Naidu and they eagerly look forward to have many more Indian students with them.

Mr Bedward was highly impressed with the students of DPS Dwarka as he could perceive in them the traits of being great global leaders. He emphasized that during the five day programme he was greatly inspired by the group of enthusiastic and passionate students.

Mrs. Sunita Tanwar, Principal DPS Dwarka reiterated that it was a privilege for the school to be associated with King’s College which is one of the most historic and prestigious universities in UK and has a long tradition of academic excellence.

All the 57 participants were awarded certificates issued by King’s College London.

 
 
LUMINARIUM – INTER SCHOOL ENGLISH LITERATURE FESTIVAL

DPS Dwarka organized Luminarium - An Inter School English Literature Festival from Wednesday, 01 May 2013 to Friday, 03 May 2013.

The event saw an overwhelming participation of around 550 students from more than 20 schools of Delhi & NCR. The Inaugural Ceremony was graced by the Chairman, DPS Dwarka and DPS Society, Mr. Ashok Chandra, who appreciated the efforts of DPS Dwarka in promoting English literature. The School Principal, Ms. Sunita Tanwar, highlighted the importance of literature, calling it a tonic for imagination. She emphasized the importance of exposing children to good literary works and inculcating in them the habit of reading.

Luminarium-2013 was a compendium of innovative and creative events like Shakespearean Scene Enactment and Sonnet Recital, Attired Apologues, Eloquentia, Converse In Verse, Poetry Café, Write Away, Flash Fiction and Design a Newspaper, to name a few.

A special award titled Luminarium Laureate, instituted to honour the Great Literary Genius, William Shakespeare, was bagged by Raabiya Marici of  Springdales, Dhaula Kuan, for her exemplary dramatic performance. The participants of the same school were also the proud winners of the Rolling Trophy.

The event ended with a promise of making this literary odyssey, an annual feature.

SCHOLAR BADGE CEREMONY (MIDDLE WING)

‘Victory feels like victory only when it is rewarded’. DPS Dwarka felicitated the young scholars of classes VI – VIII for their outstanding academic performance during the session 2012-2013, on the occasion of the Scholar Badge ceremony held on Thursday, 18 April 2013. Dr. (Mrs.) Sharada Nayak, Vice Chairperson, DPS Dwarka, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Dr. Nayak emphasized that punctuality and perseverance are the values we must nurture in our children. She urged the parents to be role models for their children.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka, in her address, congratulated the proud scholars and said that winners are people who pull themselves out of the crowd and make a habit of going an extra mile. According to her, DIPSITES are winners because they put into practice the principle of going an extra mile, of rendering more, delivering better and excelling in every sphere.

The cultural programme comprised a Talk Show ‘Success Mantra’ and ‘Confluence’ – a fusion of two classical dance forms Bharatnatyam and Kathak.

DPS Dwarka felicitated the scholars of classes IX, X and XII for their outstanding academic performance during the session 2012-2013 on the occasion of the Scholar Badge ceremony held on Wednesday, 17 April 2013. Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman DPS Society graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Mr. Chandra, in his address, congratulated DPS Dwarka for excelling in academic and co-curricular activities. He emphasized that true success lies in improving and raising one’s own level of performance.

In her address, Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka, congratulated the proud scholars and said that their determination, dedication and perseverance had borne rich fruits. According to her, learning is not just a series of instructions but a passion which goes beyond books, beyond instructions and beyond unfathomed horizons.

The cultural programme included a melodious rendition ‘Vande Mataram’ by the school choir, a Talk show ‘Doing The Right Thing’ and a foot tapping Russian Sailor dance.

 
 

GANDHIPATH

 

On Tuesday, 09 April 2013 ‘Gandhipath’ – the Gandhian Society of DPS Dwarka organized a workshop on ‘Gandhi and Me’.

The occasion was graced by Dr. V.R. Devika, a renowned Gandhian, the Founder and the Managing Trustee of Aseema Trust. She conducts regular workshops on Charkha-spinning, peace education and communication skills for students and teachers in India and abroad. She is also on the world Gandhi Speakers’ Network.

She presented short video clippings on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Demonstration of Charkha was an enthralling experience for the students. Dr. Devika appreciated the efforts taken by the school to instill the morals and values, as propagated by the great Mahatma, in the young generation. Through her workshop she highlighted the importance of Truth, Ahimsa and Humanism. Children were made to take a pledge that ‘The test of Ahimsa is in compassion’.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka in her address, said that Gandhiji may not be with us physically, but spiritually he lives on as we continue to believe that hatred should not govern human relationships. She emphasized that this initiative is an effort to uphold the Gandhian principles and teachings.

 
 

INDO-GERMAN STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

Delhi Public School, Dwarka had the honour to be a part of the Indo-German Student Exchange Programme held from 02 to 13 April 2013. A delegation of 12 students and 2 teachers from Johannes Kepler Gymnasium School, Leonberg, Germany were the distinguished guests.  It is the third consecutive year of educational exchange between the two schools.

A Welcome Assembly was held on Wednesday, 03 April 2013, where our friends from Germany were given a traditional Indian welcome with garland & Tikkas. Their twelve day stay was an enriching experience for students of both the countries.

The itinerary planned widened their horizons and gave them an insight into the rich culture and heritage of India – be it the great Indian wedding or visit to the monument of love – the Taj Mahal or the magnificent palaces of Jaipur.  Yoga, Art, Music, Dance, Sports and Hindi classes were organized for the delegation.

The Valedictory Function was held on Friday, 12 April 2013. The occasion was graced by Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Dwarka and DPS Society as the Chief Guest. A beautiful cultural programme was put up in unison by the Indian and German students. Highlight of the day was the Dandiya Dance Presentation by the German Students.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka expressed her gratitude to the DPS Society and Max Mueller Bhavan for giving the students of DPS Dwarka this opportunity. She emphasized that such exchange programmes are an effective way to build bridges of understanding among students of both the countries.
 
 

FARE THEE WELL –The Blessing Ceremony 2012-13

‘Fare Thee Well – The Blessing Ceremony’, was organized to bid a warm adieu to the outgoing batch of class XII, on Friday, 29 January 2013. The Ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp by Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka followed by a prayer. She blessed the students for a bright future and wished them good luck for the forth coming Board Exams.

Students of class XI put up a wonderful cultural programme which included band, choir and a dance performance. ‘Ruminations’ – The Video Presentation, reflecting the beautiful school memories of the class of 2012-13, left a profound impact on one and all. 37 students of class XII were bestowed with Special Titles and were awarded trophies.

The programme ended with a speech by Anunay Kulshreshtha, the Head Boy and Anwesha Dosajh, the Head Girl of our school. In their speech, they thanked the Principal, teachers, parents and their friends for making their school journey the most cherished phase of their life. Students of class XII also presented a bouquet to the Principal as a mark of respect and admiration.

The Farewell Ceremony was followed by High Tea.

AXIOM 2012, The Annual Inter School Math Fest, was held at DPS Dwarka on 22 & 23 November 2012. 300 Math enthusiasts from 20 schools across Delhi & NCR collaboratively accomplished the daunting task of realigning themselves to their generic obsession for Math.

The Inaugural Ceremony was marked by an entrancing performance by the School Band. The highlight of the ceremony was a video on ‘The Relation of Mathematics with other Fields of Life’. Anunay Kulshrestha, Head Boy DPS Dwarka and President AXIOM, declared the event open asking all participants to brace themselves to be swept away in two days of mathematical madness. In his words, the idea behind organizing Math Fests is to push all math smart people into immense cerebral activity and edge-of-the-seat kind of excitement.

The event culminated in the Prize Distribution Ceremony. Academic Supervisors, Ms. Priya Narayanan and Ms. Vanita Dewan, felicitated the proud winners.

CORE 5 – The 5th Annual Inter-School Computer Symposium was held at DPS Dwarka on Thursday, 08 Nov. 2012 and Friday, 09 Nov. 2012 respectively. More than 300 participants from over 25 schools across Delhi & NCR participated in the event.

The function began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp followed by the school orchestra’s orphic performance on a John lennon Number,  ‘Imagine’. The highlight of the ceremony was the much awaited CORE 5 video which left everybody spellbound. Anunay Kulshrestha, President, CORE declared the event open. In his speech, he delineated how a team of 18 Computer Obsessed Radical Enthusiasts made relentless efforts night and day to conceptualize and execute the event to precision. According to him, each year, a new set of learning experiences redefine core.

The Prize Distribution Ceremony marked the closing of the event with the school Principal, Ms. Sunita Tanwar, felicitating the winners.

CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATIONS

A special assembly was organized by Ravi House to celebrate Children’s Day. The programme began with a prayer invoking the blessings of the Almighty. This was followed by a beautiful thought and the news which comprised events regarding the achievements of children from across the globe. A beautiful poem enunciating how children transcend into adulthood captured the essence of the day. A speech on the significance of ‘Children’s Day’ was also presented.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal DPS Dwarka felicitated the children for their achievements in various Inter School Events and wished them good luck for a bright and prosperous future.

The assembly carried the message that all children are special and they must be nurtured with great love and care as they are the future of our nation.

In her address, Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka said that Gandhiji may not be with us physically, but spiritually he lives on as we continue to believe that hatred should not govern human relationships. Each one of us should try to work incessantly for self-improvement to fashion our own personality into an embodiment of truth, goodness and beauty.

Gandhipath – the Gandhian society will take initiatives to comprehend and promote Gandhiji’s philosophies. A plethora of activities have been planned to bring to fore the Gandhian principles and make them a part of our lives. A website shall be created by the students encompassing the genealogy and philosophies of Gandhi and their relevance in the contemporary era. Cloth weaving, storytelling, banner making, talk show, quiz will also be organized.

 
 

VANIJYA 2012 – THE COMMERCE FESTIVAL

8th & 9th August 2012

DPS Dwarka organized Vanijya 2012 – Annual Inter DPS Commerce Festival on 8th & 9th August 2012. The event saw participation from more than 47 Delhi Public Schools for offline and online competitions.

The Valedictory Function was graced by Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society, Ms. Renu Mital, Director DPS Society, Ms. Bindu Sehgal, Principal DPS Vasant Kunj & other distinguished guests.

Mr. Ashok Chandra in his address congratulated the Principal for organizing such mega events and appreciated the enthusiasm exhibited by the DPS Dwarka team. In his address he emphasised that we are a country with a lot of potential, vigour & enthusiasm. We only need to unleash it as there are many more milestones to reach & peaks to   conquer.

Ms. Renu Mital, the National Convenor of the event applauded the efforts put in by the Commerce Department for creating general awareness about various aspects of the world of business in an interesting and enjoyable manner.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka in her address reiterated that the aim of organising such events is to keep the students abreast with the corporate culture & to prepare them for their professional life.

Vanijya 2012 was a Commerce Festival with a difference, a platform with multitude of events like Quality Circle - The Commerce Quiz, Solo-Un-Minuto - Just a Minute, Cognizance – Street Play, Cinevista – The Movie Magic, Bears & Bulls - The Trading Floor Creative Pitch - Brand Advertising, Creative Entrepreneurs etc.

After two days of brainstorming the team from DPS Dwarka bagged the Overall Winners Trophy.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY

Saturday, 12 May 2012

DPS Dwarka organized the Investiture Ceremony for the session 2012-13 on Saturday, 12 May 2012. A total of 48 young leaders were invested with various responsibilities. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Amit Singla, Director of Education, GNCT Delhi. The cultural programme included a reverie of music and celestial beats by the school orchestra and school choir, a talk show on ‘Good Leadership’ and a fusion dance.

The School Principal, Ms. Sunita Tanwar, in her welcome address congratulated all the school appointees and stated that as leaders of tomorrow, it is their responsibility to not only maintain high standards but also be proactive in raising the bar in order to achieve excellence in all spheres. Giving examples of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, she said that ‘Great Leaders’ leave behind footprints for others to emulate.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Amit Singla, in his address mentioned that the Investiture Ceremony is a recognition of the leadership qualities of our young appointees. Highlighting the role of leaders in all walks of life, Mr. Singla said that the three important leadership qualities are - focus on excellence, the ability to do unsupervised hard work and a strong base in values. He concluded saying that it is an opportunity for the appointees to polish and groom these qualities.

The ceremony was witnessed by the proud parents of the young office bearers.

SCHOLAR BADGE CEREMONIES

28 & 30 April 2012

Young achievers of DPS Dwarka were felicitated for their outstanding academic performance during the session 2011-2012, in two separate Scholar Badge ceremonies. The scholars of Classes IX, X and XII were felicitated on Saturday, 28 April 2012 and for Classes VI – VIII on Monday, 30 April 2012. Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman DPS Society & Dr. (Mrs.) Sharada Nayak, Vice Chairperson DPS Dwarka, were the distinguished guests gracing the momentous occasions.

Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society, in his address, highlighted the important role of a good school enabling students to become confident individuals. He said that the society must function as a combined whole and thus it is of utmost importance that students from all sections of the society study together as a homogeneous group.

Dr. (Mrs.) Sharada Nayak, Vice Chairperson, DPS Dwarka, stressed on the necessity for breaking down the barrier of self-ignorance and the importance of team spirit. She urged one and all present to celebrate the diversity in our country and promote equity more than equality.

Mrs. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka, in her welcome address, congratulated the proud scholars and said that their determination, dedication and perseverance had borne rich fruits. According to her, DIPSITES are winners because they stick to the fight when hardest hit but never quit.

The cultural programme organized on both the occasions included melodious renditions by the school choir, dance performances and Talk shows on ‘Daring to be Different’ and ‘Sachin Tendulkar – Par Excellence’.

Supervisors, Ms. Priya Narayan and Ms. Sushma Anthwal proposed the vote of thanks.    

 
 

INDO-GERMAN STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

12 April – 23 April 2012

Delhi Public School, Dwarka had the honour to be a part of the Indo-German Student Exchange Programme from 12 April 2012 to 23 April 2012. A delegation of 19 students and 2 teachers from Johannes Kepler Gymnasium School, Leonberg were our guests. 

The Welcome Ceremony was held on Thursday, 12 April 2012, where our friends from Germany introduced themselves amidst a vibrant cultural performance. The group spent the twelve days quite eventfully. As a part of Dilli Darshan they visited Qutub Minar, Bangla Sahib, Akshardham, India Gate and Jantar Mantar, and also enjoyed shopping at popular local markets at  Janpath, Chandni Chowk to name a few. They were taken to the Historical cities of Agra and Jaipur which gave them a serene and ethereal view of the breathtaking Taj Mahal and magnificent palaces at Jaipur. Aesthetic magic of Yoga, Art classes, Bhangra Dance, various Sports and Hindi lessons was also experienced by the delegation.

The Valedictory Function was held on Monday, 23 April 2012. The occasion was graced by Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Dwarka and DPS Society as the Chief Guest and Ms. Juliana Gloeckler Fuchs, Max Mueller Bhavan as the Distinguished Guest. A beautiful cultural programme was put up by the German students. Highlight of the day was the Bhangra Dance Presentation by the German Students.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka expressed her gratitude to the DPS Society and Max Mueller Bhavan for giving the students of DPS Dwarka an opportunity to explore, appreciate and understand each others culture.

 
 

EARTH DAY

 

Friday, 20 April 2012 marked the celebration of Earth Day at DPS Dwarka.

The ceremony was an opportunity for the students to unite their call for a sustainable future directing it towards quantifiable outcomes. The students were sensitized towards global warming, pollution, deforestation and other environmental issues and probable solutions for a safer planet. The issues were brought to the fore through a Multi Media Presentation, a recital and a dance dedicated to Mother Earth. Earth Bell was also chimed as a poignant reminder of our duties and responsibilities towards this Blue Green planet.

 

    DPS KI NANHI CHHAAN

As a part of ‘DPS KI NANHI CHHAAN’ campaigns a series of activities were conducted for the students of classes VI to XI from August to December 2011. The activities were divided in three broad categories namely Gender Equity, Secularism and Environment. The students recited poems in Hindi and English, made attractive posters, paintings and table calendars including catchy slogans on the above mentioned topics.

The campaign saw its culmination on Monday, 19 December 2011 at DPS Greater Noida. The occasion was marked by the presence of Mr. Arun Maira, Member Planning Commission and other dignitaries from DPS Society including the Principals of various DPS Schools. DPS Dwarka received a cash prize of Rs. 6,000/- and Participation Certificates for students who actively took part in various activities conducted under this programme.

 

CORE 4

INTER SCHOOL COMPUTER SYMPOSIUM

The Computer Club of DPS Dwarka organized ‘CORE 4 – The Inter School Computer Symposium’ on 13 & 14 December 2011. 20 renowned schools of Delhi participated in this Symposium. A plethora of events were organized by the computer enthusiasts of DPS Dwarka so as to put to test the technological skills of the participants.

    HUMAN RIGHTS DAY

 

On Friday, 09 December 2011 DPS Dwarka organized a special assembly to celebrate the spirit of equality, freedom, justice and world peace on the occasion of the
‘International Human Rights Day’.

Students presented a thought provoking Colloquium ‘Amnesty International’ where in student delegates representing China, India, Iran, Korea and U. S emphatically put forth their views on Human Rights violation all over the world and action taken by the NGOs.

The highlight of the day was the video presentation on ‘Human Rights – Living with Dignity’ which beautifully encapsulated the need to create awareness in people about their rights and to sensitize them to learn respect and dignity of life.  

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka emphasized that aim of organizing such events in the school is to make the students understand that Human Rights are every human beings entitlement by virtue of his humanity.

 
 

    VISIT TO KINGDOM OF DREAMS

 

Around 900 students of Classes VI – XII of DPS Dwarka were taken for a picnic to ‘The Kingdom of Dreams’ on Saturday, 03 December 2011.  Spread across 6 acres of land, The Kingdom of Dreams is a unique concept which promises a multidimensional experience of India’s art, culture, crafts, cuisine, heritage and performing arts.

Students were taken for a visit to the cultural gully which presented a kaleidoscopic experience of India’s unique diversity in one street. Highlight of the day was Zangoora – The Gypsy Price – the biggest Bollywood musical, sound, light, animation, special effects, aerial choreography, stunt, magic and much left the children spell bound. In a world class theatre ‘Nautanki Mahal’ with Bollywood with entertainers Hussain and Gauhr Khan, children had a thrilling cinematic experience.

 
 

    VIRASAT 2011

 

DPS Dwarka hosted three events celebrating ‘VIRASAT 2011under the aegis of SPIC MACAY.

On Monday, 10 October 2011 DPS Dwarka organized ‘SITAR RECITAL’ to promote the richness of Indian Classical Music among the students. Pandit Shubhendra Rao, a world renowned sitar maestro and a great disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar graced the occasion with his benign presence.

Pandit Shubhendra Rao accompanied by Shri Durjoy Bhaumik on tabla performed the Raga – ‘Nat Bhairav’. His mesmerizing performance earned him a standing ovation from the audience. This was followed by an interactive session where students asked questions related to Sitar and Indian Music in general. 

 
On Friday, 02 December 2011 DPS Dwarka organized ‘Purulia Chhau Folk Dance performance’ by Shri Chinnibas Mahato and his troupe. The Chhau Dance, which is believed to date back over a century, is an Indian tribal martial dance, popular in the states of Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal. Shri Mahato and his troupe began the performance with an invocation to Lord Ganesha. Then the movements followed the nuances of the story. They beautifully presented the fight between good and evil which culminated in the triumph of good over the destructive evil. Students were enthralled by the impressive masks and elaborate headgears and the ornamental apparels of the performers. The accompanying musical instruments included the dhol, dhamsa and the shehnai.
 
A five day workshop on ‘Madhubani Painting’ was organized in DPS Dwarka from 12 – 16  December 2011. The resource persons were Ms. Shanti Devi and Ms. Jyoti Karan who are renowned artists of this art form. Madhubani Painting is a living tradition in Mithila, Bihar. It is a part of everyday life and rituals of people in Bihar.

Children were taught the technique of the art form where in they first drew the outline of the motifs like fishes, elephants, mythological gods etc and then filled colours in the designs created by them. Very colourful and creative paintings were prepared by the students during this workshop. It was a great learning experience for the students.

 
 

    VISITS BY RUSSIAN DELEGATION

On 23 November 2011, a ‘Russian Delegation of 20 members’ visited DPS Dwarka. The Chief Guests were Ms. Tatyana Balikhina, Dean of Peoples Friendship University, Moscow, Ms. Elizaveta Chamkaeva, Head of the Publishing Company DROFA, Moscow and Ms. Victoria Kurilenka, P.A. to the Dean of Peoples Friendship University, Moscow. The delegation also comprised Russian Language Teachers from countries like Nepal, Korea, China, Uzbekistan, etc.

A cultural show was put up by the students of classes IV to X. A Russian song, Russian dance and a Documentary on Russia were the highlight of the day. A special session on Russian language was conducted for the teachers of the delegation.

 
 

 AXIOM 2011

16 & 17 November 2011

Delhi Public School, Dwarka hosted the Annual Event – ‘AXIOM 11’ – An Inter School Math Fest on 16 & 17 November 2011. A total of 20 schools from Delhi participated in the event which comprised various competitions that tested the Mathematical Ability of the students like Decrypt, Problem Solving, Creative Maths, Mental Maths, Sudoku, Logic Analyze and Surprise Events for the Junior and Senior Category.

The Felicitation Ceremony was graced by Mr. Somitra Sanadhya, Assistant Professor, I. I. I. T Delhi. The programme began with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest. It was followed by various other performances which showcased the talent of students of DPS Dwarka. A Talk Show, ‘Maths in Art’ complimented the theme and enriched the audience with amazing facts about the importance of Mathematics in day to day life.

The Chief Guest, in his address congratulated the Principal and teachers for organizing the event and encouraging the interest of the students towards the subject and emphasized on the application of the same in practical life.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka in her address, emphasized that the aim of organizing such events is to make the students recognize the varied roles played by mathematics in society, from accounting and finance to scientific research, from public debates to market research and political polls from architectural design to fashion design – Maths is a way of life.

The two day event saw enthusiastic and active participation from the students. The Overall Winners Trophy was bagged by the team from DPS R. K. Puram followed by DPS Dwarka as Runners Up.

NATIONAL FINALS OF THE ANNUAL INTER DPS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

10 & 11 November 2011

 

DPS Dwarka hosted the National Finals of the Annual Inter DPS Football Tournament for Boys (U-14) on 10 & 11 November 2011.

The Opening Ceremony was graced by Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Dwarka & DPS Society as the distinguished Chief Guest and Ms. Swati Rawat, International Football Player & Member of the Indian Football Team as the Special Guest.

Mr. Ashok Chandra in his address complimented DPS Dwarka for organizing a stupendous show and appreciated the efforts put in by the Principal, staff and students. He emphasized that at DPS we aim to impart holistic education so as to nurture the inherent talent and ensure all round development of the students.

The Closing Ceremony was graced by Mr. Mohinder Pal Singh, Former Captain Indian Hockey  Team,  Ms.  Renu  Mital,  Director DPS Society and the Convener of this event and Mr. Rohit Parashar MS (Football) from NIS Patiala.

Mr. Mohinder Pal Singh congratulated Delhi Public Schools for giving the young players an opportunity to exhibit their talent. He whole heartedly offered his help in nurturing young talents and promoting them to represent their country.

After qualifying at their Zonal Level 9 best teams from Delhi Public Schools across India and abroad participated in the National Finals to compete for the coveted trophy. The final match was played between DPS Nepal and DPS Vasant Kunj where DPS Vasant Kunj emerged as the winners of the Tournament.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka in her address said that ‘Talent wins games  but team work and intelligence wins championships’. It is through games and sports that we can foster values like friendship, discipline, devotion and dedication

 
 
 

SCHOLAR BADGE CEREMONY

18 & 19 October 2011

 

‘Excellence is never granted, it is the reward of labourDPS Dwarka acknowledged the efforts of its young scholars by felicitating them for their academic excellence on the occasion of the Scholar Badge Ceremony.

The students of Classes VI – VIII were felicitated by Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society on Tuesday, 18 October 2011. Mr. Chandra congratulated DPS Dwarka for carving a niche for itself and appreciated the undaunted efforts put in by the Principal, Staff and Students.  He acknowledged the fact that DPS Dwarka is known for imparting quality education and is a name synonymous with excellence.

On Wednesday, 19 October 2011, Mr. Jang Bahadur Singh, Deputy Director of Education, Zone – South West (B) presented badges to the scholars of Classes IX – XII. He advised the students to imbibe the four important virtues i.e. humility, respect, patience and tolerance which will enable them to tread the path of success.

Mrs. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka in her address emphasized that learning is not just a series of instructions but a passion which goes beyond books, beyond instructions and beyond unfathomed horizons.

The school orchestra performed a well synchronized Indian Raaga.  The songs sung by the school choir were highly motivational and inspirational. Talk shows on – ‘The Road to Success’ and ‘Life is about Choices’ were appreciated by one and all.

Mr. Ashok Chandra & Mr. Jang Bahadur Singh embellished the scholars with Gold Medals, trophies, blazers, ties and badges and blessed them for a bright future.

DPS Dwarka organized Investiture Ceremony for the Senior Wing on Wednesday, 17 August 2011. Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Dwarka and DPS Society graced the occasion as the Honourable Chief Guest to formally designate the students with responsibility of sharing the charge and functioning of the school discipline.

The members of the School Council pledged to function with absolute honesty, commitment, integrity and dedication. The highlight of the day was the ‘Talk Show – Vision of Great Leaders’ wherein students presented speeches by great leaders like Abraham Lincoln, Mark Antony, Brutus, Lucifer, etc    

In his address, Mr. Ashok Chandra emphasized that leadership is the ability to be a catalyst for change, to inspire and persuade people to follow the righteous path. Empowering one’s fellow beings rather than controlling them is the hallmark of true leadership. He wished them good luck for a fruitful & worthy tenure.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka congratulated the School Appointees who were all set to embark on a journey to become dependable leaders with right values and positive attitude.

The newly appointed Head Boy, Harshvardhan Goel and Head Girl, Mrinali Mahajan, on behalf of the entire Student Council, expressed their gratitude towards the school authorities for reposing faith in them. They ensured to carry forward the rich legacy and promised to uphold the DPS culture.

 
 
 
 

VISIT TO RASHTRAPATI BHAVAN

The students of DPS Dwarka had the honour of meeting the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil. The ‘Rashtrapathi Bhavan’, its immensity, beauty and grandeur left everyone awe struck. As the team entered the portals of the building which houses the First Lady of India, they were briefed about the code of conduct to be followed.

The Security Personnel escorted the team to the Hon’ble President’s Office. Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal, DPS Dwarka presented her a bouquet, books and the School Magazine as a token of love and respect. Hon’ble President was briefed about the DPS Society, its vision and mission statement. Ms. Tanwar also highlighted the achievements of 140 schools running successfully under the canopy of DPS led by  Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society. She emphasized about the social commitment of all DPS schools like promoting education for the girl child and education for the underprivileged children in DPS Schools. The Hon’ble President appreciated the efforts of the DPS Schools in promoting education among the underprivileged.

The Hon’ble President conveyed her message for the students of DPS :

Education gives you the strength of career and character. She quoted Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s words, “Education is like the milk of the tigress”. India is growing and the youth has to contribute to its development. Education empowers us to think not only about our own welfare but also about the less privileged.

The interaction ended with a group photograph with the Hon’ble President of India. The DPS Dwarka family feels highly honoured and will cherish the memories of this unforgettable experience.

 
 
 

EARTH DAY

Delhi Public School, Dwarka celebrated ‘Earth Day’ on Thursday, 21 April 2011 to pay reverence to Mother Nature. The occasion was graced by the Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society as the Chief Guest. German delegates from Johannes Kepler Gymnasium School were also a part of the celebrations.

The programme began with the ringing of the ‘Earth Bell’ and signing of the Earth Day Charter as a poignant reminder of our duties & responsibilities towards the long term sustenance of the blue planet. The school choir presented a melodious ‘Earth Song’ dedicated to Mother Nature. The highlight of the day was a thought provoking Talk Show – ‘The Global Impact – Japan 2011’. A multimedia presentation saluting the inherent beauty of the cosmos was appreciated by one and all.

In his address, Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society lauded the initiative taken by the Principal to sensitize the students towards the need to protect the environment. He expressed his joy on being a part of the Earth Day Celebrations & emphasized that we need to not only think, not only imbibe, but ‘act now’ to save the ailing planet.

Ms. Sunita Tanwar, Principal DPS Dwarka reiterated that in the present times, there is a need to create world-wide consciousness that the Earth itself is a living organism – an enormous being of which we all are parts. It has its own metabolic needs and vital processes which need to be respected and preserved.
